U of M Wombats R.F.C.

It’s that time of year again to re connect with the ghosts of Wombats past present and future. Christmas beers is the clubs annual tradition and this year is no different. As always Christmas beers will be held the saturday before Christmas, this year it falls on the 20th. We decided to head back to an old favorite, The Round Table on Pembina. The festivities start and two and go until the night is over. If you can just stop in for one or feel like spending the night, feel free. We hope to see all Wombats adn family there.

The Banquet is just around the corner. This year’s banquet will be held at Maple Grove Rugby park on October 25th. Cocktails at 6 dinner at 7.

The playoffs start tomorrow. Both men’s teams are off to make their way to next weeks finals. The 2nd’s team kicks off against the Wanderers 1p.m. at MGRP folowed by the Premier game vs. the WASPs at 3.
Come out and show your support it’s going to be a great day at the park!

It was a busy week for the Wombats. We saw all three teams in action. It started on Wednesday when the 2nd Division took on the Wanderers in a hard fought battle the Wombats came out on winnig side.
Thursday found the Women’s team in their first match of the season. They were away from home to play the Sturgeon Creek Rowdies. With many new additions to the side and new positions being played there was much anticipation for the first match. This writer has never seen the team dominate in the scrums and mauls as they did on Thursday. This season proves to have some great potential.
The premier team played the Wanderers on Thursday as well, and if the game had been 40 minutes and victory would have been assured unfortunately problems occurred in the second half and the first men’s loss of the season is on record.
In other action, the St.Paul’s Crusaders headed out with their Wombat coaches to the Provincial championships on saturday. They brought the cup with them as they were the defending champs. The bus headed back into town with the trophy quota intact. It was great match with Minnedosa, the Crusaders fought hard and managed a second perfect season. Well done players and coaches!
There are no league games this week however the Maipogo Rugby/ Volleyball tournament is coming up on the weekend. It is sure to be a great time and we are asking all Wombats to be at the field for 9 a.m so we can ensure that the day proves to be successful!

June 14th is just around the corner. Book it off call in sick, do whatever you need to do because you don’t want to miss Manipogo the Wombats annual Rugby tournament.

This year we are also having a co-ed Volleyball tournament to add to the fun. It’s a full day of sports, beer and Hank.FM! All this will be taking place at Maple Grove Rugby Park with a wind-up social at the Charlie saturday night!
